Acupuncture in our Aurora clinic
Acupuncture is just one type of modality used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and is often combined with Herbal Medicine.
There are different types of Acupuncture, but the real one is from a person trained in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This involves thousands of hours of training. When it comes to your health, there is no substitute for proper care.
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is the insertion of very fine needles into specific parts of the body below the dermis (skin). Yes that’s it. But selecting the right point is the most important part. It’s very easy to learn Acupuncture, but its very difficult to know where to put the actual needles. There is more to acupuncture that meets the eye.
It is easy to think that if you have back pain, putting needles in the back is the way to get the results you want. This is usually far from the actual truth, as back pain could be happening for a number of reasons. For instance, while treating back pain with acupuncture, I tend not to put any needles in the back for most treatments because I find I get better results with distal points ( far away from the back). Many practitioner therapists out there may do more local treatments

Acupuncture Needles are super thin and they do not hurt like hypodermic needles. Most patients feel very relaxed during treatments and often fall asleep. Acupuncture should not be painful, and will negate any positive effects.
How long does acupuncture last?
A typical acupuncture treatment will last about 30 minutes, but treatments can be less or more time depending on what is being treated.
HOw many acupuncture treatments do I need?
It depends on why you need acupuncture. Starting with a course of 10 treatments will give you a realistic understanding if acupuncture is working. Some conditions you may only need a few treatments, and for chronic conditions, you may need ongoing acupuncture treatments.
How often do you need to get acupuncture?
It may depend on what you are treating with the acupuncture. A Common cold or sore throat you may only need a couple treatments close together. All needles are one time use only and put into a sharps container for disposal after each treatment. We do not use re-usable needles.
