Lung Heat

Common with teenagers, this is, in Chinese medicine terms, an accumulation of heat in the Lung, which rises to the face as what Chinese medicine calls “fire toxin”. The skin is red with red papules, pustules which are quick to come and go.

Yang Ming Heat

Similiar pattern to Lung Heat, but the symptoms are more pronounced, painful, and seem to be more widespread on the face, especially the cheeks. There may be constipation or loose bowels, poor appetite, bad breath, and distention.

Blood Heat with Stasis

This pattern is found in people who are in adulthood, with redness, papules, nodules, especially around the chin and jaw line, with painful pustules. This acne tends to be worse before the period arrives or around ovulation.

Fire Toxins, Stagnation of Phlegm and Blood Stasis

Deep pustules and nodules, cysts, scarring. Lesions are slow to form and go away.
